Over the past 14 years, VBD has become one of the largest youth volunteer networks in Bangladesh, playing a critical role in addressing local challenges and promoting sustainable development.

To foster an interdependent and resilient Bangladesh through the power of volunteerism, enabling individuals to actively contribute to their communities and collectively driving the nation towards its fullest potential.
To empower and facilitate volunteerism across Bangladesh, engaging youth at every level to drive sustainable development. By reaching into all 495 upazilas, we aim to reallocate skills, resources, and opportunities that promote self-reliance, community empowerment, and youth-led growth. Our initiatives align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), ensuring that every volunteer action contributes to the nation's progress toward a more equitable, resilient, and prosperous future for all.
Youth undoubtedly are the most viable and potential human resources for any population and social structure. Especially in developing countries like Bangladesh, where around 50 % of the population falls between the ages of 15 to 25 years. Young people are the key social change agents and are capable of injecting positive energy and creative ideas. Youth have the determination to drive innovation and reform. However, misguidance and lack of support can hinder the potential of youth and turn them into a burden for the nation. On the other hand, Bangladesh has been confronting immense challenges in the process of development. To minimise these hindrances, there is a persistent need for a platform of guidance and empowerment of the generation today and the next. Volunteer for Bangladesh is one such platform that would allow youth from different social backgrounds to come and work together to reduce the social and economic inequalities to build a better Bangladesh.
At Volunteer for Bangladesh, we encourage volunteers to become a part of the VBD family and bring positive change within and around their communities. VBD welcomes volunteers to come up with their innovative ideas, sharpen them and implement them in a way that benefits the community. This approach is a result of VBD's mission to help drive youth-led initiatives and motivate youth-centric ideas, spirits and activities.
Volunteerism is a powerful way to involve people of all ages in tackling social as well as development challenges and obstacles. It further helps to take a leap and transform the nature of development. Volunteerism benefits the individual by strengthening trust, unity and empowerment as well as aiding the society at large. Furthermore, in today’s world, where opportunities are centralised, VBD has created a platform for the youth outside the capital city where their voice is heard and valued.
At present, VBD has more than 55,000 registered volunteers actively engaged in various social awareness campaigns throughout the year across all 64 districts of Bangladesh. Each of the individual district acts as a platform for the local youth to become vocal about the respective community issues and to work for the social development accordingly. So far we have successfully planned, designed and executed many big campaigns on Universal Children’s Day, World Water Day, World Environment Day, Great Kindness Challenge, etc and many others social issues.
Volunteer for Bangladesh (VBD), the youth wing of the esteemed JAAGO Foundation, has grown from a small but passionate group of 40 volunteers in 2011 to a dynamic community of over 55,000 registered volunteers today. This transformative journey has been fueled by the unwavering commitment of young people who are dedicated to creating positive social change across Bangladesh.
VBD's inception traces back to the celebration of Universal Children’s Day (UCD) in 2009. Volunteers of JAAGO Foundation organize the first-ever UCD campaign in Bangladesh, inspired by the United Nations’ vision to promote children's rights worldwide. The campaign aimed to raise awareness about children's education, rights, and overall well-being. Prior to this effort, Universal Children’s Day was not widely recognized in Bangladesh, but JAAGO Foundation’s initiative paved the way for the observance of this crucial day. Since then, UCD has become one of the cornerstone campaigns of JAAGO Foundation, continuing to advocate for children's rights across the nation.
Though volunteers had been working with JAAGO Foundation since UCD 2009, the overwhelming response from the youth, combined with their growing desire for a more structured platform, led to the formal establishment of Volunteer for Bangladesh (VBD) on May 2nd, 2011. This pivotal moment marked the beginning of a more organized and expansive movement, providing the youth of Bangladesh with a platform to channel their passion for social change into meaningful actions.
As VBD expanded, it gradually broadened its focus to include a wide range of social awareness campaigns and sustainable development initiatives that align with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Over the years, VBD has made significant strides in youth empowerment, education, health, environmental sustainability, and community development. The platform provides youth with the opportunity to volunteer, engage in meaningful activities, and develop leadership skills.
From its humble beginnings, VBD has evolved into a prominent national movement, actively engaging volunteers across 64 districts in Bangladesh. By offering a platform that connects young people with impactful initiatives, VBD has created a supportive community for youth to voice their concerns, initiate projects, and collaborate with like-minded individuals to drive change.
With a dedicated network of volunteers, VBD continues to strive towards a brighter, more equitable future for all, ensuring that the next generation of leaders is equipped with the tools, knowledge, and inspiration to make a lasting impact on society.
