Volunteer for Bangladesh (VBD) Dhaka District North organized the Youth 4 Clean Dhaka initiative at Banani, Mohakhali, Korail, and the Gulshan Lake area, Dhaka, to raise public awareness about urban cleanliness, environmental awareness, and responsible waste management as part of World Cleanup Day 2026. Supported by UN-Habitat and Dhaka North City Corporation, the five-hour campaign brought together more than 80 youth volunteers who engaged with community members through direct cleanup activities and educational outreach. The initiative reached more than 100 people, educating them about proper waste disposal methods and encouraging simple, practical measures to keep public spaces clean and healthy.
The campaign promoted responsible environmental practices and inspired young people to become active advocates for a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable Bangladesh. Through direct interaction with pedestrians, local residents, and community members, volunteers shared important information about the environmental risks associated with improper waste disposal and encouraged greater public participation in community hygiene. The initiative also provided young volunteers with opportunities to strengthen their leadership, teamwork, and civic advocacy skills while contributing to a meaningful social cause.
The Youth 4 Clean Dhaka initiative contributed to Sustainable Development Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities. By bringing together youth volunteers, local community members, and partner organizations, VBD demonstrated the power of collective action in addressing urban environmental challenges. The cleanup drive marked another important step toward building a more aware, responsible, and sustainable Bangladesh for future generations.
