On International Sign Language Day 2025, Volunteer for Bangladesh (VBD) Chattogram District launched “Voice of Silence”, an initiative aimed at promoting social inclusion and empathy. The program focused on teaching sign language to young people and highlighting the importance of overcoming communication barriers for hearing- and speech-impaired individuals.
The program took place at Agrabad Shishu Niketan School on 23 September 2025 and brought together:
35 dedicated volunteers
30 enthusiastic students
The session was led by trainer Taslimah Akter Laki, who taught participants:
The sign language alphabet (A–Z)
Signs for common words like “mother” and “father”
Country names in sign language
Respectful communication techniques with hearing- and speech-impaired individuals
Through interactive and lively activities, the session became both educational and memorable, leaving participants better equipped to communicate inclusively.
Voice of Silence highlighted the vital role of youth in fostering inclusion and empathy in society. By learning and practicing sign language, volunteers and students:
Develop effective communication skills with diverse communities
Build social responsibility and empathy
Help break down barriers for people with hearing and speech impairments
This initiative demonstrates how local actions by young volunteers can create meaningful social change and promote a culture of inclusivity.
VBD Chattogram District reaffirms its commitment to:
Inclusive communication
Youth empowerment
Social responsibility and empathy
Programs like Voice of Silence encourage young people to actively participate in building a society that values diversity, inclusion, and mutual respect.
Volunteer for Bangladesh invites youth across Chattogram and beyond to join future initiatives that promote inclusion, communication, and positive social impact. Together, small actions can create significant change for a more inclusive society.
