Volunteers for Bangladesh (VBD), Dhaka organized “Fight for Trash,” a three-hour community cleaning initiative near JAAGO School in Korail Basti, Dhaka, to mark International Volunteer Day. The event brought together 59 dedicated youth volunteers to clean the surrounding area and raise awareness about responsible waste management. Through hands-on cleaning activities and a friendly trash-collection competition, the participants worked collectively to make the neighborhood cleaner and more welcoming for local residents.

The initiative reflected VBD’s commitment to Sustainable Development Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, highlighting how community-led action can contribute to healthier and more sustainable urban spaces. Volunteers actively collected waste and measured their impact through the amount of garbage gathered during the activity. The campaign was also part of VBD’s wider environmental efforts, with cleaning activities conducted in areas including Dhanmondi-32, Shamoly, and Korail Basti.

Fight for Trash demonstrated that meaningful change can begin with simple acts of volunteerism. By taking responsibility for their surroundings, volunteers not only helped improve the local environment but also encouraged others to recognize their role in building cleaner and more sustainable communities. The initiative reinforced VBD’s message that every individual can contribute to positive change and that together, volunteers can make a lasting difference in the communities they serve.
