As part of World Tourism Day 2026, Volunteers for Bangladesh (VBD) Kishoreganj District, Nikli Upazila Volunteers organized an awareness and cleanliness campaign at Nikli Haor on 9 September 2026 under the theme “Clean Haor, Beautiful Future.” The initiative focused on promoting responsible tourism, proper waste management, environmental protection, and biodiversity conservation among tourists and boatmen visiting the haor.

As part of the campaign, volunteers distributed waste bins among boats and conducted awareness sessions with boatmen and tourists on responsible waste disposal and keeping the haor clean. Alongside the awareness campaign, volunteers also carried out a cleanliness drive in the surrounding area and collected waste from different parts of the haor. The active participation and positive response of tourists and boatmen reflected growing awareness of the importance of protecting this valuable natural environment.

The initiative reached approximately 100 people through direct awareness activities and practical engagement. Its impact was assessed through the number of tourists and boatmen reached, the distribution and use of waste bins, participation in the cleanliness drive, and the amount of waste collected. Through this initiative, VBD aimed to encourage responsible tourism practices and inspire collective action to preserve the natural beauty, cleanliness, and ecological value of Nikli Haor for future generations.
