YES Clean Water
JAAGO Foundation has been in partnership with WaterAid for many years towards achieving SDG 6- Clean Water and Sanitation goal. To reduce the consumption of contaminated water, we are working together to launch ‘ YES Clean Water ‘ campaign to raise awareness of safe water at household levels. In association with WaterAid’s “Youth for SDG 6”, JAAGO Foundation’s youth wing Volunteer for Bangladesh will activate this campaign in 3 districts namely Dhaka, Khulna and Rangpur.
There are 3 purposes which are important for this campaign:
- To find the percentage of contaminated water in a selected number of buildings in Dhaka, Khulna and Rangpur and reason behind contamination
- Reducing the distance between the WASA authorities and citizens of the country which is required to build a trust
- Raising awareness on water usage and SDG 6 which is very significant in the society
A systematic screening will take place to select the eligible volunteers. Selected volunteers will receive specialized training – Training of Trainers (ToT) on WASH and will get an understanding of the project at a greater depth. After the training, these volunteers will further facilitate 50 volunteers in their respective community for implementing the project. These 50 volunteers will further receive insights and instructions on the activation of the project. In coordination with WaterAid, JAAGO Foundation will arrange a meeting with WASA and request for permission to perform the activities.
The selected 50 volunteers from Dhaka, Khulna and Rangpur (150 in total) will be divided into 10 groups (5 volunteers in each group). They will be given a target to conduct water tests in at least 10 buildings households for each activation. They will conduct the water tests using an electronic device already provided.
Although Bangladesh has made significant progress in providing access to 98% of the population, but according to UNICEF’s data, the access to safe drinking water still remains low at 34.6%. With this ‘ YES Clean Water’ campaign, We look forward to build a better Bangladesh through mobilization of our youth networks and spreading knowledge all over the country and resolve the water issues. This project is expected to set a long term impact on the citizens and JAAGO Foundation aims to provide quality work as an implementing partner.
