Youth In Governance
Volunteer for Bangladesh arrange awareness activities for youth to give then an understanding about the importance of transparency, accountability, good leadership, respect for human rights, rule of law, democracy which are inevitable to ensure the good governance. In past few years, VBD has arranged a number of projects like youth perception survey, monitoring election campaign & electoral process and Democracy watchers.
Youth Perception Survey (YPS) – U.S. Department of States (2014)
In collaboration with U.S Department of states a nationwide survey was conducted on youth aimed to understand their perception on democracy, good governance and political culture in Bangladesh. The survey targeted 1400 youth throughout the country and covered a broad range of geographical area. From April 2014 to June 2014, the project was implemented in 5 divisional districts: Dhaka, Chittagong, Sylhet, and Rangpur & Khulna.
Monitoring Election Campaign Finance
During the last Upazilla Elections (2014), along with International Republican Institute JAAGO conducted the Monitoring Election Campaign Finance project which aimed to track the campaign expenditures of identified candidates, particularly on money spent on propaganda materials and the conduct of rallies and meetings. This program involved Training of Trainers (ToT) for 20 master trainers from Comilla and Gazipur to monitor Upazila election campaign financed and reported on the Election Commission about relevant recommendations, instances and observations.
During the last National JAAGO Foundation along with NDI conducted the Election Monitoring project. It aimed to monitor voting and its condition in 3 Upazilas of Chittagong District – Patiya, Chondonish &Bashkhali. This program had also been devised to evaluate the state of Bangladeshi youth participation in elections and to find out whether there were any incident/accident happening in the premise. Before the Election observation, JAAGO Foundation trained up all the 30 observers by 3 of our Master trainers to ensure proper understanding of every rule and regulation for election provided by election commission.
Mobilizing Youth to advance good governance and democracy
To deepen knowledge and engagement on issues of human rights and democracy among youth the project ‘Mobilizing Youth to advance good governance and democracy’ is being implemented by JAAGO Foundation. The project was funded by National Endowment for Democracy from May 2017 to April 2018. Under this project, young volunteers of Volunteer for Bangladesh from 8 divisions of Bangladesh were trained on key elements of democracy and governance, assist them in spreading this knowledge within their own networks, and facilitate advocacy with locally elected officials.
